The Museum of Santal Culture is located in Bishnubati, a Santal village situated 10 kilometers away from Tagore’s Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan. The museum is managed by the Bishnubati Adibasi Marshal Sangha, the registered society founded by the villagers. The Santali name of the museum is ‘Santal Arichali doho-jogao Bakhol’ which means ‘the house for taking care of Santal culture and heritage’.
The museum was inaugurated in 2007 with the financial support of the Indian Museum, Kolkata, along with the technical support of the Ghosaldanga Bishnubati Adibasi Trust. Prof. Rajat Kanta Roy, former Vice-chancellor of Visva-Bharati University, and Mrs. Shila Poddar Kundu from Indian Museum were the special guests of the inaugural programme of the museum.
The museum keeps 150 items related to Santal culture, exhibited in six different categories. They are (a) Hunting materials, (b) Musical Instruments, (c) Dresses and Ornaments, (d) Household materials, Photographs of Santal olden times and (e) Santal sculptures with stones.
